Current Products
Over the past few years, our department has created a suite of applications targeted to solve specific concerns that were identified within the College. Many of our applications have allowed our clients to adjust their workflows in a positive manner; in most cases, the biggest benefit has been derived from their increased ability to manage valuable, diminishing resources. Below is a sample listing of our flagship products.
Eller Student Management System(eSMS)
Originally designed for the Undergraduate Programs Office, this web-to-database software application has expanded in scope to handle the following modules:
Academic Advisor Scheduling
Students wishing to make an appointment with an Academic Advisor access eSMS via a web page. Based on their career information, i.e. their major and/or advanced standing status, the students are automatically directed to an advisor who specializes in that student’s background. eSMS retrieves the appropriate student data from the SIS portion of UIS in order to determine their academic status.
Professional Admissions Web Application
Twice a year, applications for Advanced Standing are solicited from the undergraduate population. Students access a secure web site to make application; during the application process, the web pages pull data from UIS to determine the applicant’s eligibility. Candidates that do not meet the criteria may be redirected to a specific advisor for a face to face appointment, or denied application altogether; applicants who meet the criteria are stored in the database, along with their complete academic record to date. That information is later used by the UGPO staff to determine if other criteria for admission have been met.
Eller Graduate School Web Application
Recently added to the system, eSMS supports a customizable graduate web application allowing students interested in higher degrees to apply electronically for a given advanced degree program. Each academic department can individually taylor the application to their specific admission needs; resume upload and web-based recommendations are also supported. Full reporting capabilities are included in the system.
eSMS Proper
The heart of the eSMS system allows users single-screen access to important student information during the typical advising appointment, without having to resort to the SIS screen swap. UIS is able to give us read-only snapshots of the most important information advisors need; while they still must access SIS to make changes to the student record, the majority of advising questions can be answered without having to load the student in SIS. Additionally, customized reports based on majors, classes or units are also available to staff on an ad-hoc basis.
Eller Timesheet System (ETS)
https://ets.eller.arizona.edu
A recent addition to the Eller Information Technology Product Catalog, ETS is a web-based replacement for the standard paper-based time reporting mechanism. Fully integrated with both PSOS and FSO/Payroll, the system is capable of intelligently guiding users into correctly completing their timesheets each period. Departmental reporting structures are replicated within ETS, allowing supervisors to review timesheets as they are filed, then forward them to the Payroll Officer for final keying into PSOS. Timesheets may also be returned to employees for adjustments as needed. All completed timesheets remain within the archive for reporting purposes.

Lab Access Management System (LAMS)
Due to the low number of computers in the various Eller Information Technology Computing Labs, and the high number of potential users for them, the Eller College set some limits as to the population eligible to use our resources. LAMS was designed with this purpose in mind. When a student or faculty member attempts to gain access to a particular lab, the LAMS software scans UIS to determine if they are eligible. LAMS also generates usage statistics that allow Lab Managers to accurately set lab hours and keep the labs staffed appropriately. The usage statistics also allow the Lab Managers the ability to determine when the labs may be closed on behalf of faculty members for use in class related activities.
Eller WebCalendar
https://webcal.eller.arizona.edu
One of the most common requests we received was for a group scheduling tool that would allow users within a specific department to plan their time in concordance with their associates. After analyzing several of the available tools available to the College, we determined that none of them offered the needed flexibility and integration that a group scheduling solution would require. To that end, the Eller WebCalendar was developed to fit into our specialized group scheduling niche.
Our web-based group calendar system ties into existing University data sources in order to determine availability, and offers users the flexibility to post personal, departmental and globally public calendar items. Recent updates to the system include the meeting planner wizard, which will scan the calendar for an open time for a group of people, and full integration with Microsoft Outlook.
The Eller WebCalendar is currently available and is open to any valid Eller College Faculty or Staff member. Training is available by contacting support.
Survey
As a result of multiple requests, we developed a tool that allows a client to design and publish a web-based survey. The Survey Creator allows for the use of many standard question types, as well as the generation of custom question types for a specific survey. The actually survey itself operates as a self-generating wizard, guiding the survey taker through each of the questions in the order specified by the survey design. Survey results reporting are available in two formats: a complete statistical summary, or a survey-by-survey review.
The survey tool is available to anyone in the college wishing to use it. Please email support for more information.
Miscellaneous Products & Services
In addition to our developmental tasks, our division maintains all of the Eller IT branded websites (http://it.eller.arizona.edu). We also maintain several legacy Access-based windows applications, both within Eller IT as well as for several College departments. On occasion, we have consulted with departments regarding their hardware and software needs as they relate to hosting databases or web systems.
