Accessing E-Mail with PuTTY Secure Telnet

Please note: SSH Secure Shell can be downloaded from the following site:

From the PuTTY Configuration Screen:

Host Name: u.arizona.edu
Click Open
User Name: your Ua NetID
Enter your password and you are connected.

After you have successfully reached the system prompt, you can:

Type in Pine to enter the Pine mail system.

While unpopular, Pine is very functional as a text based mail system. The menus are located at the bottom of the screen and are activated using the keyboard, not the mouse.

Type in Menu to display the Eller menu, where some of the more common tasks are grouped such as:

Mail: Electronic Mail (Pine)
Info Deli: Eller Info, College, Faculty, UseNet, Sabio, etc.
File: Edit and manage your files
Misc: Forward, Vacation, Home Page, Password, Signature
Labs: Labs
Messages: System of Network Downtime messages
Comments: Submit comments or suggestions

Setting your mail to forward automatically to personal accounts:

Type in Menu
Select Misc
Select Forward
Select "set forward"
Type in the e-mail address where you want your mail sent.
Click control o and hit return when you are prompted for a filename (.forward is correct)
Click control x to exit
