Graduate Lab - Windows 2000 Configuration

NOTE: This configuration has been successfully tested with a standard installation of Windows 2000 and with Service Packs 1 - 4 installed. This configuration has also been tested with both wired and wireless connections.

Connecting to the Grad Lab Printers

  • Right click on My Network Places and select Map Network Drive from the menu.

  • Select a drive letter and in the Folder text box type in the following: “\\128.196.40.171\docked” without the quotes. Check the box that says Reconnect at login and click on the option to Connect using a different user name. The drive mapping is important as this is how you will authenticate on the server.

  • In the User name text box, type in “docked@eller.college” without the quotes. There is no password. Click OK to save the login information.

  • Click on the Start Button.
  • Click on Settings -> Printers.
  • In the Printers window, double click on Add Printer.

  • Click Next to continue.

  • Select Network Printer and click Next.

  • Select the option Connect to this printer. In the text box type “\\128.196.40.171\gclab-bw” without the quotes. This will select the Black and White printers in the Grad Lab. Check the next step for installing the color printer. Click Next to continue.

  • If you would like to install the color printer in the Sands Lab, you will need to type “\\128.196.40.171\gclab-color” without the quotes. (NOTE: This printer has been physically moved to the Sands Lab. You can still print to this printer, however, you will need to go to McClelland Hall Room #135 to retrieve your document(s).) Click Next to continue.

  • You will need to decide if you want to setup this printer as your default printer. You will only see this screen if you already have a printer installed. Click Next to continue.

  • You will now be presented with a screen stating that you have successfully completed the Add Printer Wizard. Click Finish.

You have now added the Grad Lab Printer queues to your printer list. Please note that the printer(s) you just created should say that they are PAUSED. Do not change this option or you will be unable to print. When you send a job to this printer, you will not be asked to name your print job as you are able to do on the Grad Lab computers. When you go to the print station you will need to find your print job by username. You should see docked@eller.college on the list of usernames. Make absolutely sure that the job you select is the one you want as there will be no refunds if you select the incorrect job.

Also note that the IP address of the server has changed from 128.196.40.15 to 128.196.40.171 since this was originally posted
