Sands Lab - Windows XP Configuration

NOTE: This configuration has been successfully tested with both a standard installation of Windows XP and with both Service Packs 1a and 2 installed. This configuration has also been tested with both wired and wireless connections.

Connecting to the Sands Lab Printers

Click on the Start Button

Click Printers and Faxes.

  • You will now see the Printers and Faxes folder. Depending on if you have a printer at home or certain applications; you may or may not see an existing printer. Click on Add a Printer.

  • Click Next on the Add Printer Wizard window.

  • Select the option for A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer.

  • Select the option Connect to this printer. In the text box type “\\128.196.40.171\sclab-bw” without the quotes. This will select the Black and White printers in the Sands Lab. Check the next step for installing the color printer. Click Next to continue.

  • If you would like to install the color printer in the Sands Lab, you will need to type “\\128.196.40.171\gclab-color” without the quotes. Click Next to continue.

  • When you click Next, you will be presented with a login authentication screen. Enter in the following:
    • User name: docked@eller.college
    • Password:
    • Check the box to Remember my password. (Please note that you should not enter a password.)
  • Click OK to continue.

  • You will next be presented with a dialog box that tells you that it will be installing printer drivers from the server. Click Yes to continue.

  • You will need to decide if you want to setup this printer as your default printer. You will only see this screen if you already have a printer installed. Click Next to continue.

  • You will now be presented with a screen stating that you have successfully completed the Add Printer Wizard. Click Finish.

You have now added the Sands Lab Printer queues to your printer list. Please note that the printer(s) you just created should say that they are PAUSED. Do not change this option or you will be unable to print. When you send a job to this printer, you will not be asked to name your print job as you are able to do on the Sands Lab computers. When you go to the print station you will need to find your print job by username. You should see docked@eller.college on the list of usernames. Make absolutely sure that the job you select is the one you want as there will be no refunds if you select the incorrect job.

Also note that the IP address of the server has changed from 128.196.40.15 to 128.196.40.171 since this was originally posted
